Emily Brontë (1818–1848) was an English novelist and poet, best known for her only novel, Wuthering Heights (1847), a masterpiece of Gothic literature that has become one of the greatest classics of English fiction. Born in Thornton, Yorkshire, Emily was the fifth of six Brontë children, growing up in a literary family alongside her sisters Charlotte and Anne, who also became celebrated writers.
Despite her reclusive life and early death at the age of 30, Emily’s work is renowned for its raw emotional power, vivid imagination, and exploration of human passion and the darker side of love. Today, she is remembered as one of the most influential voices of 19th-century literature.
