FORMED BY THE SPIRIT: A Theology and Practice of Spirit-Filled Discipleship

What if the missing ingredient in your discipleship isn't a better system — it's a Person?

Churches are full of people who attend, serve, and believe — yet remain fundamentally unchanged. Pastors build programs, preach powerful sermons, and develop curricula, only to find that years later, their congregations are wider in attendance but shallower in formation. Something is missing.

That something is Someone.

In Formed by the Spirit, Pastor Kevin Ortiz makes the bold, biblically grounded case that genuine discipleship has never been — and can never be — separated from the Holy Spirit. Drawing from decades of pastoral experience and deep engagement with Scripture, Ortiz weaves together rigorous theology and practical ministry tools into a comprehensive framework for Spirit-filled disciple-making that actually works.

You will discover:

Who the Holy Spirit really is — and why treating Him as a resource rather than a Person has quietly emptied our discipleship of its power

The four stages of spiritual growth mapped in 1 John 2 — and exactly what each stage requires from the disciple-maker

How to build a discipleship culture in your local church that reproduces itself across generations

The role of spiritual warfare, the gifts, the fruit, and the disciplines in producing lasting, Christ-formed character

Why the goal is never just maturity — but multiplication

Whether you are a pastor building a church, a leader investing in your team, or a believer hungry to grow and reproduce — this book will change the way you understand what it means to follow Jesus, form others, and trust the Spirit to do what only He can do.

The Spirit is ready. The question is whether we are willing.
