She Was Meant to Shine

Lena has loved Zach since they were eight years old, the boy across the hall who once begged

her to wait for him on the walk home.

Fifteen years later, she's lying in a cancer ward, and Zach is too busy making soup for the

"one true love" who just walked back into his life to come hold her hand.

When his neglect costs Lena the dog she raised like a child, something inside her finally goes

quiet. No more shrinking herself for a man who only ever looked down on her. No more begging

for scraps of a love that was always conditional.

Now Zach wants to buy back the ring, propose, make it right. But some doors close for good—

and some debts come due in ways no one sees coming.

A devastating story of self-worth, the love we owe our families, and the price of waking up too late.
