THE LAST SECRET

A Psychological Thriller of Memory, Murder, and Betrayal

By Ritesh Sonvane

The final witness is the one person nobody thought to question.

A sealed mansion. A collection of recordings. A woman who was declared dead. And a secret that someone has spent decades trying to erase.

When investigative journalist Evelyn Cross receives an anonymous package containing an old brass key, a photograph of Blackthorn House, and a warning to uncover its hidden records before they disappear, she expects to find a story. She does not expect to find her own past waiting inside.

Behind a freshly repaired wall in the abandoned mansion, Evelyn discovers a concealed room filled with recordings bearing the names of people who vanished, died under suspicious circumstances, or were officially declared dead. Among them is a tape addressed to her by a voice that knows her childhood nickname—and claims that her mother has lied about everything.

The recording raises a terrifying possibility: Evelyn witnessed something at Blackthorn House years ago, something powerful people have worked relentlessly to conceal.

With the help of forensic audio specialist Nina Brooks, Evelyn begins tracing the voices, dates and discrepancies buried in the recordings. Their investigation leads to missing government files, a village whose residents have learned to remain silent, a disconnected telephone linked to impossible calls, and a network of people who have spent years manipulating the truth.

But every answer creates another contradiction. Some witnesses are not who the records say they are. Some deaths may never have happened as reported. And someone inside the investigation knows more than they should.

As the evidence begins to expose a conspiracy involving murder, falsified identities and institutional betrayal, Evelyn must confront the possibility that the truth about her childhood is inseparable from the crimes she is trying to uncover.

The deeper she digs, the more dangerous the investigation becomes. Because the people who erased the past are still alive—and they know she is getting closer.

The Last Secret is a psychological mystery thriller about unreliable memories, buried evidence, missing witnesses and the devastating consequences of protecting a lie. Blending atmospheric suspense, investigative twists and a conspiracy that reaches far beyond one abandoned house, Ritesh Sonvane delivers a mystery for readers who enjoy intricate clues and revelations that challenge everything they thought they understood.

The recordings are waiting.

The records have been altered.

And the final witness has not yet told the whole truth.

Some secrets are buried to protect the innocent. Others are buried because the guilty are still in power.
