About this audiobook

For fans of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion and Wings of Starlight comes an enchanting debut fantasy about a young woman determined to break all the rules and learn magic. She'll just need to hide her activities from her nosy mother, a string of unwelcome suitors, and the young enchanter who she absolutely, definitely wants nothing to do with.

Zelda Van Doren knows what she wants, and it isn’t getting engaged to an eligible young enchanter. After all, this is 1935, and a girl has more options than just marriage—especially Zelda, who has a secret gift for magic.
Of course, there is the small problem that women aren’t supposed to be able to do magic at all, so Zelda has to work in secret or risk being committed to an asylum. Not helping matters is John Pendleton, her latest suitor, who continues to turn up despite her best efforts to get rid of him. Zelda has no time for distractions: spellcasting is proving to be astonishingly difficult.
Then a fairy appears in a nearby town, and Zelda sees a chance to get the help she needs. But when a long-simmering distrust between fairies and enchanters threatens to boil over, she finds herself caught in the middle. Suddenly more than just her dream is in jeopardy, and Zelda must learn how to work a little magic before it’s too late.
Brimming with wit, charm, and the blush of first romance, this irresistible debut will cast a spell on you . . . just as soon as its protagonist figures out how.
