About this audiobook
A creative writerss shelf should hold at least three essential books: a dictionary, a style guide, and Writing Fiction. Janet Burroway's bestselling classic is the most widely used creative writing text in America, and for more than three decades it has helped hundreds of thousands of students learn the craft.
This new edition continues to provide advice that is practical, comprehensive, and flexible. Burroway's tone is personal and nonprescriptive, welcoming learning writers into the community of practiced storytellers. Moving from freewriting to final revision, the book addresses "showing not telling," characterization, dialogue, atmosphere, plot, imagery, and point of view. It includes new topics and writing prompts. And the examples and quotations throughout the book feature a wide and diverse range of today's best and best-known creators of both novels and short stories.
This book is a master class in creative writing that also calls on us to renew our love of storytelling and celebrate the skill of writing well. There is a very good chance that one of your favorite authors learned the craft with Writing Fiction. And who knows what future favorite will get her start listening to this edition?

The content of this book may be good, but I will never know. I'm about 5 minutes into the audiobook version of this book and the narrator's voice makes me want to kill myself. The narration of the audiobook is terrible in ways I cannot even begin to exaggerate. I want you to imagine the worst narration possible, take a moment, and try to under that it's worse than that. it exceeds the bounds of imagination. In no reality could I have believed this could have been produced and then sold for money. More than one person signed off on this production. Yet, not one person bothered to listen to a second of the narration during production to check for quality. If they had, I guarantee you on my life, that this audiobook would have not been released. Imagine a robot was trying to bore you to death with a tone and cadence that is not attempting to pass for human. How does this narrator sound less human than a Speak and Spell? I cannot believe this. This is a sick prank.
