About this audiobook

"Narrator Kristen Sieh skillfully guides listeners through Ilona Andrews's complex, detail-oriented narrative... it never drags because Sieh makes every character feel real..." — Library Journal (Starred Review)

Outlander
meets Game of Thrones in this blockbuster new epic fantasy series from the #1 New York
Times bestselling author duo Ilona Andrews.

When Maggie wakes up cold, filthy, and naked in a gutter, it doesn't take her long to recognize Kair Toren, a city she knows intimately from the pages of the famously unfinished dark fantasy series she's been obsessively reading and re-reading while waiting years for the final novel.

Her only tools for navigating this gritty world of rival warlords, magic, and mayhem? Her encyclopedic knowledge of the plot, the setting, and the characters' ambitions and fates. But while she quickly discovers she cannot be killed (though many will try!), the same cannot be said for the living, breathing characters she's coming to love—a motley band that includes a former lady’s maid, a deadly assassin, various outrageous magical creatures, and a dangerously appealing soldier. Soon, instead of trying to get home, she finds herself enmeshed in the schemes—and attentions—of dueling princes, dukes, and villains, all while trying to save them and the kingdom of Rellas from the way she knows their stories will end: in a cataclysmic war.

For fans of Samantha Shannon, Danielle L. Jensen, Sarah J. Maas, and isekai and portal fantasy, This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me is the beginning of the most epic adventure yet from genre powerhouse author duo Ilona Andrews.

The narrator for this audiobook has given me a new benchmark for what a good audiobook narrator should be. She makes it clear who is speaking and who is thinking what without taking you out of it. I'm trying not to say any spoilers, but I'm a big fan. The book itself is pretty good. It's a little tongue-in-cheek, and not a trope that I usually enjoy. However, I just listened to this audiobook two times in 4 days. I have recommended it to all of my loved ones who might even enjoy it. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series, and am really sad I found it so soon after the first book came out.

Read and reread multiple times so far and have yet to get bored of it. The only criticism I have is that the Romance aspect of the book are very similar to many of the other books by the Andrew's team, I half expect the main male to start sprouting hair at any moment due to these similarities. The Protagonist feels more human than some of the other Novels by Andrews due to the fact that while there is a strong male to shield her, she is often more focused on the tasks she has set herself than on letting "Superman" solve all of her problems even if that can lead her into trouble. Though I would like to see the male lead fail directly and grow as a character as opposed to the failures being because he wasn't there his biggest flaw is stubbornness and that's it.

About the author

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats. They have co-authored several bestselling series, including the #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and weekly serial Innkeeper Chronicles.
