When young Polish woman Rosa Milicz disappears, Detective Chief Inspector Janine Lewis is drawn into a disturbing investigation that quickly turns into a murder case. Rosa was working at a nightclub, and her disappearance raises uncomfortable questions about the people around her, the club's shadowy connections, and the dangerous world she may have become trapped in.
As Janine and her team investigate, a stolen Mercedes, a murdered schoolgirl, drug dealers, and a missing suspect begin to connect in unexpected ways. The investigation leads them through Manchester's streets, nightclubs, hotels, and criminal underworld, while evidence points toward a network of exploitation and violence.
At the same time, Janine's demanding career collides with turmoil in her personal life, forcing her to confront painful problems of her own.
