About this audiobook

"Charming and hilarious... Sookie and Betsy have some competition!" —MaryJanice Davidson, New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

It's a hard-knock afterlife...

Lana Harvey is a reaper, and a lousy one at that. She resides in Limbo City, the modern capital of the collective afterlives, where she likes to stick it to the man (the legendary Grim Reaper himself) by harvesting the bare minimum of souls required of her. She'd much rather be hanging out with Gabriel, her favorite archangel, at Purgatory Lounge. But when a shocking promotion falls in Lana's lap, she learns something that could unravel the very fabric of Eternity. If the job isn't completed, there could be some real hell to pay.

I went into Graveyard Shift blind and I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this! I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Hollie Jackson did an incredible job narrating this story. This one was different from my usual reads. I've never read one following a reaper, and I found I really enjoyed it. We also encounter angels and demons, gods and goddesses. Mythology from around the world is featured. Depending on what the human soul believes in, that's where their afterlife will be. But some rules can be bent. I liked Lana. She was snarky and rebellious. There is a touch of romance between her and an angel. There is resistance in the beginning, but she decides to give him a chance. Overall, I did enjoy this story and I definitely want to continue the series.

Funny book, but the narration really needs some getting used to. The ditsy happy sing-song voice does not suit the book at all.

This was a joy to read—fresh, funny, well written, well edited, and just plain engaging. I enjoyed Lana's sarcastic personality and lacklustre...or rather lack of ambition. She is a marvellous slacker, who despite her worst intentions can't help but get the job done--with a little help from her friends (and occasional frienemies). Said friends are also a lot of fun, especially Gabriel.
