Even though Faolan's mother abandoned him, she didn't want to. She had to obey the rules of her clan, and every other, to hand over knaw wolves, or any wolf pup who has a deformity when born, to be set out to die by the Obea. The Obea is a wolf in a clan of wolves that can not give birth, for they have no milk to give their pups. However, if the knaw wolf survives, and goes back to a clan, they are presented as knaw wolves, the lowest clan member. The knaw wolves are treated with such disrespect.
