About this audiobook

Just after the events of Star Trek Generations, on the planet Veridian III, ambassador Spock comes to the humble cairn, or stones, that marks the grave of James Kirk. But he is not granted time to ponder the passing of his best friend. The Borg and the Romulan Empire have a use for Kirk, and with some mysterious alien science they resurrect the fallen captain, who they hope will give them the edge they need to destroy their greatest enemy, Jean-Luc Picard. It will take the combined powers of both generations, from Spock and McCoy to Data and Riker, to meet this almost unthinkable new threat.

I remember reading this years ago. Shatner's performance definitely elevates it. My only real criticism of the Shatnerverse is that its kinda self-indulgent. Kirk integrates into the TNG era way too smoothly and easily outsmarts the Borg, a threat he shouldnt even really understand. I appreciate that Shatner and the Reeve-Stevens at least pay attention to existing star trek lore. They could have easily just made it a TOS/TNG story, but they smartly roped in a lot of stuff from DS9. The USS Monitor is kinda interesting. Lower Decks eventually had a Defiant class USS Anamaxander, which is visually identical to how the USS Monitor is described here. Not really related, just kinda neat

Great book on Kirk's return. But I feel the audiobook is too condensed and therefore missing some parts-imo. On another note I wonder if since Spock plays such a big role Shatner ever gave a copy of the book to Leonard Nimoy to see what he thought of the story. All I can say is for me where Generations ends the Shatner-verse Trek story begins

Fantastic story! I had read this book years ago, and I decided to purchase this book to listen to while on a road trip. William Shatner brings life to this book with his narration.
