El Soldado: The Soldier

From New York Times bestselling author William C. Dietz, El Soldado: The Soldier is a gripping contemporary thriller that's high on no-holds-barred action, with a hero willing to sacrifice anything to protect those he loves . . .

After a stint in a Venezuelan prison Nick Serrano has no desire to remember and being discharged from the Marine Corps, he returns home to find that his estranged wife spent all his savings, leaving him nearly destitute.

With nothing left to lose, Serrano steals a large sum of money from a bitcoin criminal named Mr. Yankovic, and heads south into Mexico. The plan is to live quietly in the village of Lugar de Paz, where he was born and raised by his grandfather.

But Lugar de Paz is far from peaceful. Yankovic's hired killers come looking for Serrano, and the more the ex-marine kills, the more the drug dealer sends—until the locals come to call him El Soldado. The Soldier.

But that isn't all. Lugar de Paz is under constant threat from the local drug cartels. Fortunately, a priest named Father Colón is there to rally the villagers, as is the leader of the local guerilla group, a school teacher named Martina Blanco.

The villagers are brave. But, when the final onslaught comes, will bravery be enough?
