Who He?

Who He? by Alfred Bester (also published as *The Rat Race*) is a razor-sharp psychological novel that dives into the chaotic world of postwar television, fame, and paranoia. Known for his inventive storytelling and brilliant character studies, Bester crafts a gripping, darkly humorous tale of a successful TV writer whose world begins to unravel under the pressures of modern celebrity and hidden guilt.

The story follows a talented but tormented man caught in a whirlwind of deception, ambition, and mental breakdown as he struggles to distinguish reality from illusion. Bester exposes the fragile ego behind the glitter of show business, turning the spotlight on the emotional disarray lurking beneath professional success. Through vivid prose and psychological tension, he delivers a scathing critique of media culture, personal identity, and the cost of living a double life.

Who He? stands as one of Alfred Bester’s most unique works outside his acclaimed science fiction, blending satire, suspense, and psychological realism into a compelling portrait of a man—and an era—losing touch with itself.
