The Marriage Auction is a dystopian science-fiction novel set in the megacity of Aethelgard, where the powerful Conglomerate for Population Regulation (CPR) controls every aspect of society, including marriage. Citizens are evaluated, categorized, and sold through “Union Auctions,” a system disguised as social optimization but designed to maintain elite power.
Lucy Foster, a quiet archivist from the impoverished lower sectors, has spent years carefully avoiding attention by keeping her productivity rating at an average level. Her life changes overnight when she is unexpectedly selected for a Union Auction and sold for an astonishing price to Daniel Hayes, a wealthy and influential member of the ruling elite.
At first, Lucy believes she has simply become another asset owned by a powerful man. However, as she explores Daniel’s estate, she discovers that he specifically targeted her because of her unique knowledge of historical records and forgotten infrastructure maps.
Together, Lucy and Daniel uncover a horrifying conspiracy. The CPR has been deliberately engineering shortages of water, resources, and living conditions in lower sectors to reduce productivity, justify mass relocations, and funnel citizens into auctions, forced labor, and deadly industrial wastelands. The system is not preserving society—it is systematically exploiting and eliminating the lower classes.
As Lucy learns the truth, she struggles with betrayal after discovering that Daniel used the auction system to acquire her for his own mission. Yet she also realizes he is one of the few people trying to expose the corruption from within. Together they risk everything to recover hidden historical records and physical evidence proving that the CPR manufactured crises to control the population.
The novel evolves from a story of survival into a story of resistance. Lucy transforms from an invisible archivist focused only on staying alive into a courageous woman willing to challenge the foundations of a corrupt regime. Alongside Daniel, she seeks to reveal the truth, restore essential resources to the oppressed sectors, and give the people of Aethelgard a chance to reclaim their freedom.
