About this audiobook

On the edge of a remote Croatian island, where every shadow hides a secret, Maggie’s world is about to unravel.

From the international bestselling author of the Detective Erika Foster and Kate Marshall series, comes a gripping standalone psychological thriller where nothing is as it seems — and the truth can be deadly.

Did Will take his own life – or was he murdered?

The question echoes through the morgue as Maggie presses her forehead to her husband’s cold skin. Five days ago, Will was alive. Now he’s dead—and the police insist it was suicide.

Maggie knows that can’t be right. Will wasn’t depressed. He had plans for the future. A future that didn’t include dying alone.

Desperate for answers, Maggie retreats to their secluded holiday home on a remote Croatian island. There, she discovers a hidden letter in Will’s handwriting—one that hints at a shadowy past he never shared, and a secret someone will kill to keep buried.

As Maggie digs deeper, the island seems to close in around her. She’s being watched. Followed. And the closer she gets to the truth, the more dangerous it becomes.

Because Will’s death wasn’t the end of the story.

It was only the beginning.

On the edge of a remote Croatian island, where every shadow hides a secret, Maggie’s world is about to unravel. I loved the initial feel of this story and was on the edge of my seat anxious to know where it was going. However, once it moved full steam ahead into the mystery with a bit of evidence here and there, it soon lost its dark, intriguing quality. While it settled into a nice enough mystery, I found it to be somewhat ordinary. There was a small twist but nothing that shook me. Overall, this was an enjoyable enough read and would have been even more so had I not had different expectations of it.

This tightly-plotted story contains a well-balanced combination of suspense, shocking twists and political intrigue, which kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. I'd highly recommend Fear the Silence to existing fans of Robert Bryndza's crime fiction, but also as a perfect starting point for those who are yet to delve into his work, given that it's a standalone. My thanks to the author, Robert Bryndza, publisher Raven Street Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review

Fear the Silence is one of my top reads of June 2023. This book is brilliantly written (umm...hello, it's Robert Bryndza) with sharp twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. he layers of dread and the growing paranoia are written so well, and the comparison to the brewing storm made this read thoroughly engaging. Maggie is a survivor, grounded by principle and an oath to do right by people. Thank you, NetGalley & Raven Street Publishing, for this e-ARC.
