About this audiobook
A world-weary woman races against the clock to survive a deadly forest in this dark, otherworldly fairytale from Nebula and World Fantasy Award-winning author Premee Mohamed.
At the northern edge of a land ruled by a merciless foreign tyrant lies a wild, forbidden forest ruled by powerful magic.
Veris Thorn—the only one to ever enter the forest and survive—is forced to go back inside to retrieve the tyrant's missing children. Inside await traps and trickery, ancient monsters, and hauntings of the past.
One day is all Veris is afforded. One misstep will cost everything.
Contains mature themes.

Thank you to Tantor Media and NetGalley for an audio form of this ARC. This was a reread for me. While I loved both versions, the audio book was so good and made the story feel more like a fairytale. The story itself is good. I think it's done really well, and is definitely a story I think about often. It screams classic fairytale but with a little more body and flushed out characters.

I absolutely loved this book. It reads every bit like a dark fairy tale straight out of the Brother's Grimm with all the heartbreak to go along with it. The ending was bittersweet but fitting. I can't wait to explore more from this author.
