About this audiobook

I've been running toward burning buildings for a decade. Then my best friend's widowsmiled at me for the first time in two years, and I knew right then I was introuble.

After Caleb died, I made a promise—I’d take care of his wife. Keep an eye on her.Check in on her. Make sure she kept on living.

Collins insists she’s fine. She’s not.

So when she finally agrees to let me help pull her out of her grief, I vow to standbeside her however long she needs me, no matter how much it costs me.

Collins isn’t supposed to smile at me like she does. She’s not supposed to let me in.And she definitely isn’t supposed to be the best part of my day.

She was Caleb’s. I know that.

The problem is, I can't stop wondering what it would be like if Collins wasn't justsomeone I was meant to protect.

But mine.

I've been running toward burning buildings for a decade. Then my best friend's widowsmiled at me for the first time in two years, and I knew right then I was introuble. Piper Rayne has written another great romance. Ansel and Collins story grabbed me from the start. My heart squeezed for each of them. I just didn't understand why it was so forbidden for them to be together. Maybe weeks after her husband's death, but not 18 months. Fowler totally made me want to throwmy Kindle. And others in the town...ugh. The sweet and steamy storyline with Ansel's patience and Collins strength warmed my heart. Reading & listening to it so there are no interruptions is best!

This was a fun and touching story. My heart went out to Collins as she continued to mourn the death of her husband. I loved how her friends got her started on a healing path. Ansel had his guilt to deal with, but he was determined to help Collins find her way back to living. As secrets began to come out as she worked her way through the list, she found she had support, love, friendships, and a desire to live life again. I had so many tears as the story began to wrap up. Great narration.

This is the second book in The Mercer Family series, a small-town romance. Ansell and Collins's slow-burn romance is beautifully written, emotional, and engaging. They are both fantastic characters, and their story is truly heart-wrenching. I loved how Ansell helped Collins navigate her grief and begin to heal. It's a beautiful and moving story. The full cast of narrators delivers an excellent performance, bringing these characters and their story to life.
