I think the best number in the whole universe is eight. My friend, Asim, likes numbers about as much as me, but he likes them all - odd or even. Esmarelda, though, who lives across the street, isn't so fond of numbers and she hates maths. Singing's more her thing. She's really good, too, nearly as good as my mum. Mum's a professional singer. Or was, until we had to move. The worst number in the universe, though, is seven. For a start it's an odd number, and it's thin and sharp and mean-looking, like a medieval scythe. So when I saw 777 on that Mustang's numberplate, I knew it was the start of something bad. And I was right.

Anna Fienberg AM is a bestselling and multi-award winning Australian author of books for children and young adults including The Magnificent Nose and Other Marvels, Ariel, Zed & the Secret of Life, The Witch in the Lake. She has won numerous awards, including the CBCA Book of the Year Award and the Aurealia Award for Best Children's Short Fiction. With her teacher-librarian mother Barbara Fienberg, she is the bestselling author of the Tashi series, which has sold over one million copies worldwide and has been translated into 16 languages. Her book Horrendo's Curse was an Honour Book in the Younger Readers category in the 2023 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year awards.

Rebecca Macauley is an award-winning narrator. She has appeared in various television series, including international hit Neighbours and Australian drama Blue Heelers. Her work includes the US feature film Darkness Falls and the children's television series Wicked Science. Rebecca has previously narrated Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta and Ursula Dubosarsky's Abyssinia.

Stig Wemyss is Australia’s most loved audiobook narrator for children and young adults. He has lent his voice to the work of some of Australia’s most accomplished authors, including Andy Griffiths, Paul Jennings, Tim Winton, Marcus Zusak, Margaret Clarke and, most recently, Andrew Daddo.
