People in the Gospels often appear only for a few sentences—then vanish. This collection enters their inner worlds: a woman laboring among strangers, a soldier guarding a tomb, a youth who loses his cloak, a madman among the tombs, a boy sharing his food, a woman battling her demons. What surprises us is not only how much can be imagined, but how much courage, tenderness, and fierce love live within these small moments of faith.
In this work, the author, who has degrees in philosophy and psychology, draws upon his research in biblical studies and the history of the early Roman empire. He has also made use of his own symbolic experiences and his work with dreams, in which he attempts to reveal archetypes operative in humans. Often, he has found that heroism arises when historical forces encounter characters with an archetypal dimension.
