The Audition: An MM Angsty Workplace Romance

"Most actors show me a mask and expect me to applaud the craftsmanship. I'm not interested in the mask. I'm interested in the face underneath."

Leo Carter is desperate. At twenty-five, his life consists of a crumbling Bushwick apartment, endless grinding shifts behind a bar, and the crushing weight of a career that refuses to launch. He’s spent his entire life performing for a father who only loved him when he scored a trophy. He knows how to wear a mask. He knows how to give people exactly what they want to see.

Then he walks into an audition room with Vincent Hale.

Vincent is a reclusive, brilliant indie film director known for breaking actors down until they bleed raw truth onto the screen. He doesn’t want Leo’s polished technique or his rehearsed smiles. He wants the hidden nerve underneath.

What starts as private, high-stakes blocking sessions under the studio skylights quickly morphs into a dark, consuming obsession. As the cameras begin to roll, the boundary between the script and reality completely collapses. Vincent is used to directing every frame of his life, but Leo’s transparency is a force he can't control. And Leo is discovering that the only thing more terrifying than being invisible... is being seen completely.

When the cameras stop turning and the masks are stripped away, will they survive the truth of what they’ve uncovered?

The Audition is a high-angst, high-heat, contemporary MM romance featuring a mesmerizing age gap, intense workplace power dynamics, and a slow burn that ignites into absolute surrender. Complete standalone with a guaranteed HEA.
