About this audiobook
This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. "What Now My Love" – A Heart-Wrenching, Life-Affirming True Love Story
In this raw, deeply moving audiobook, 85-year-old Alan Hodgkiss lays bare the extraordinary 56-year love affair with his soulmate Rita – from the electric moment they met at a rifle club in 1969, to her peaceful passing in his arms in 2025.
With unflinching honesty and trademark British wit, Alan chronicles their wild, adventurous life together: eloping to Canada aboard the Empress of Canada, dodging bigamy charges with the RCMP, building a yacht in California, constructing a house in Baja Mexico, living among millionaires and manure-brick houses, and turning everyday moments into magic.
But beneath the laughter and triumphs lies a profound grief. Alan recounts Rita’s devastating stroke, his own “broken heart syndrome,” and the unbearable silence of his first Christmas alone – all while clutching the bronze urn that holds her ashes and whispering daily to the woman who was his everything.
Narrated by a crystal-clear AI voice, this bittersweet tribute is far more than a memoir. It’s a celebration of a once-in-a-lifetime love that defied convention, a poignant meditation on loss, and a gentle reminder to cherish every day with the one you love.
Funny, fearless, and unflinchingly tender, "What Now My Love" will make you laugh through tears, grip your heart, and leave you believing in soulmates again.
“Alan and Rita’s story is the kind of love most people only dream of.”
