A Brief History of Animation

From hand-drawn characters and pioneering optical illusions to stop-motion masterpieces and breathtaking computer-generated worlds, animation has continuously expanded the possibilities of visual storytelling.

A Brief History of Animation traces the development of this extraordinary art form from its earliest experiments through the rise of Disney, the golden age of animated shorts, the evolution of Japanese anime, and the digital revolution that transformed modern filmmaking. Along the way, it explores the artists, studios, technological breakthroughs, and creative movements that established animation as a powerful medium for storytelling across every age group and culture.

More than a history of cartoons, this book celebrates the imagination, artistry, and innovation behind a medium in which almost anything is possible.
