An analog watch dial set over a beech-and-maple wood in autumn, late in the afternoon: a low sun raking between dark trunks, a canopy of orange, gold and red with a little green left in it, a carpet of fallen leaves and a few more still falling through the light.
The hands are faceted gold swords with lume inserts, one side lit and one in shade, and a slim red-orange seconds hand with a counterweight. They are read against polished gold applied batons with lume inserts, a double baton at 12, each standing off the dial and casting its own shadow onto the forest. Around the edge runs a smoked-sapphire chapter ring with a printed minute track. The minute hand moves in whole-minute steps. At 3, a framed window shows the date.
At 9 and 6 sit two recessed subdials of frosted glass, the forest blurred behind them, each with a polished ring, a fine needle and the two ends of its scale. Each subdial shows the reading you choose, marked by a small icon under the needle: battery, step goal, heart rate, steps or temperature. Steps run to 40,000, heart rate from 40 to 200, temperature from -20 to 40 degrees Celsius.
The whole dial is rendered as one piece, with the scene, glass and metal lit together, so it reads as a real dial rather than flat graphics.
Always-on shows a quiet sketch of the forest's outlines, the markers and the subdial rims as dim lines, with the hour and minute hands.
SETTINGS
Left subdial: battery, step goal, heart rate, steps or temperature. Battery by default.
Bottom subdial: the same choices. Heart rate by default.
Show seconds: on or off. Shows or hides the seconds hand. It is always hidden in always-on.
Temperature follows your phone's units. The temperature needle needs weather on your watch; until it arrives it rests at the start of its scale.
