Let's-a go!

This watch face puts World 1-1 across your watch, pixel for pixel: the blue sky, the clouds, the green hills and bushes, the brick ground, the lone ? block and the row of bricks and ? blocks above it. And every minute, Mario plays through it.

Small Mario walks in and punches a coin out of the first ? block. He stomps a Goomba flat. He knocks a Super Mushroom out of the next block, and it slides along the row, drops off the end and into him, and he grows. Big Mario breaks a brick into pieces, knocks a Fire Flower out of the last ? block, takes a run-up, jumps onto the row and grabs it. Fire Mario throws a fireball at a Goomba coming from each side, drops back down, smashes the last two bricks and stomps one more Goomba on his way off the screen. Then the level starts again.

The level follows the clock, not your wrist. Glance at your watch at any moment and Mario is wherever that second puts him, always in step with the time.

Every sprite is NES-style pixel art: the ? blocks shimmer, the coin spins, the Fire Flower flickers, and every number and letter is set in a blocky 8-bit type drawn pixel by pixel, outlined in black so it reads against the sky.

Everything you need at a glance:
• A big 8-bit digital clock, following your 12/24-hour setting
• Weekday and date
• Battery level, counted the way the game counts coins
• Today's steps beside Mario's boot
• Your heart rate beside a 1-UP mushroom
• A white step goal ring around the edge, filling as you walk

Make it yours: press and hold the watch face, tap Customize, and switch the step goal ring off if you prefer a clean edge. It is on to begin with.

In always-on mode the level steps aside and only a dim clock stays lit, gently shifting position to protect your screen.

Made for anyone who grew up with a controller in their hands: fans of the NES and the Famicom, of the 1985 original that started it all, of the Mushroom Kingdom, warp pipes and hidden 1-UPs, of speedruns and the first goomba you ever stomped. A retro gaming watch face for the 8-bit kid in you.
