About this app

Fast Media Sorter is a file organizer for Android. You open a source folder, look at each file once, and send it where it belongs - one decision per file, until the folder is empty. Around that core, it grows into a complete shell for your device.

The core of the app is sorting files into folders you choose:

• You choose the folders on both sides - DCIM, Downloads, chat media, an SD card, a USB drive, an SMB/CIFS, FTP or SFTP share, Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox.
• Decide and move on - copy, move, rename or delete, then straight to the next file.
• Every file type, not only media - photos, video, music, PDF, EPUB, text and archives.
• Batch operations across folders and protocols, including cross-cloud transfers with progress and ETA.
• Scheduled operations - set up a transfer between two folders once and let it run on its own.
• Trash with a 5-minute recovery window, thumbnails, advanced sort and filters, multi-select and drag-to-reorder.
• Share a network folder as a QR code, so another device joins it by scanning.

Why the app asks for access to all files:

Sorting has to reach the folders you pick, not only the app's own private storage - a file organizer that cannot write into your destination folder does nothing at all. That is why the all-files permission is requested, and it is the permission the main workflow depends on. Nothing leaves your device because of it: there is no account and no telemetry.

Why the app asks for location:

Location is optional and only used by the features that need it: it writes coordinates into the photos and videos you shoot with the built-in camera, it draws the compass, speed, altitude and map gadgets on the launcher desktop, and it fills the GNSS and Wi-Fi sections of the network monitor. It is never read in the background, and the map gadgets load their map imagery over the network to show where you are. Deny it and captures simply carry no coordinates, and those gadgets stay idle.

What the rest of the shell does:

• Device shell - make it your home screen, with gadgets, widgets, clock, weather and a taskbar.
• Media player - you see a file before you decide about it, so the viewers are built in: photos with crop, filters and OCR, video on ExoPlayer (Media3) with Picture-in-Picture and 360°, music with lyrics and Chromecast, PDF and EPUB with text-to-speech, slideshows.
• Live streams - thousands of internet TV and radio channels with search, topic filters and now-playing information.
• App launching - every installed app on one screen, app shortcuts and a quick-launch panel.
• A replacement for stock apps - a camera that shoots straight into your folder, offline OCR and translation, text editor, calculator, stopwatch.
• A companion on the watch - play the watch's own photos, videos and music, browse the phone's resources, network resources and stream channels, record voice notes, move files between phone and watch; Wear OS tiles (programs, resources, streams, favorites) and complications (favorites, last resource, now playing). A separate free watch face for Wear OS 6 and newer is on Google Play - search for FastMediaSorter on the watch.
• Device monitoring - the app's network connections, system information and automatic power saving.
• A full file manager - the sorting core above, across the phone, SD cards, USB drives, network shares and the cloud.

Every screen works with a keyboard, TV remote / D-pad or gamepad, and home-screen widgets start a resource, continue reading or play random music.

Free, open and private - the app source code is published under Apache License 2.0, and local, SMB, FTP and SFTP browsing plus the image, video, audio, PDF and EPUB viewers all work fully offline, without any account.
