About this app

Bring the closest planet to the Sun to your wrist with Mercury — First Light, a cinematic Wear OS watch face grounded in real planetary science.

MESSENGER-MAPPED TERRAIN

Mercury’s cratered globe is rendered from the PIA17386 enhanced-color global map created with imagery from NASA’s MESSENGER mission. The terrain remains scientifically registered while its color is restrained into a premium charcoal, copper and mineral-blue palette.

THE SUNRISE THAT TURNS BACK

Watch a seamless cinematic animation inspired by one of Mercury’s strangest real phenomena. Because Mercury follows an eccentric orbit and rotates in a 3:2 spin-orbit resonance, the morning Sun can rise, briefly set and rise again from some locations near perihelion. First Light compresses that unusual apparent solar motion into an elegant repeating visualization.

DEPTH THAT RESPONDS TO YOU

Subtle gyro parallax separates the starfield, sodium-exosphere glow, mapped planet and crater-glint layers. Tilting your wrist adds dimensionality without making Mercury spin or drift unrealistically.

QUIET AMBIENT MODE

When your watch rests, the animation gives way to a static, dimmed Mercury. The sparse ambient presentation preserves the face’s identity while reducing illuminated pixels and avoiding background animation.

FEATURES

• MESSENGER PIA17386-based surface imagery
• Seamless solar-reversal animation
• Four-layer gyro parallax
• Static, dimmed ambient planet
• Highly legible Orbitron digital time and date
• OLED-conscious black space backdrop
• No ads and no account required
• Designed exclusively for Wear OS

The animation is a time-compressed artistic scientific visualization, not a real-time ephemeris or temperature measurement.
