A deep-space instrument: a black field of stars with a nebula of dust and gas gathered low in the middle, crossed by a thin metal X that cuts the dial into four wedges.
The top wedge holds the time in tall, narrow numerals, with today's weekday above it. Yesterday and tomorrow are lettered along the rim on either side, so the week reads across the top of the dial. The time follows your watch's 12/24-hour setting.
The left and right wedges each carry a gauge. A graduated arc runs along the rim and fills from its bottom end up to the current reading, with a bright mark where the reading sits. The two ends of the scale are printed beside it, and the reading itself sits in the middle of the wedge with its icon. By default the left gauge shows steps against your step goal, and the right one shows the temperature on a scale from the day's low to its high. Either gauge can show heart rate, chance of rain or UV index instead. Counts above 999 read as whole thousands, such as 7K.
The bottom wedge holds the date, with the battery percentage and a battery icon on the line beneath it.
The X is solid metal, and the two side wedges are filled from the centre with quilted metal that fans out and fades before the readings. The metal, the gauge scales and all the text come in six colour themes, each a muted metal against the same night sky.
Always-on keeps everything except the background: the weekday, the time, both gauges, the date and the battery, dimmed on black with the X drawn as thin lines and a few stars.
